Valkyrian ready for Southwell battle

September 2024

Valkyrian can continue her profitable campaign with victory in the Get The Inside Track With raceday-ready.com Fillies' Handicap at Southwell on Wednesday.

The four-year-old has already won three times this season for trainer Jamie Osborne and has also filled the runner-up spot on three occasions.

She produced a career-best performance at Chepstow just last week, scoring comfortably despite drifting left late in the day.

Osborne turns his filly out just nine days later under a 5lb penalty, but 3lb of that is offset by William Carver's claim and another bold bid looks assured.

At Lingfield, William Haggas' Choreographic is an intriguing starter in the Get Raceday Ready EBF "Newcomers" Maiden Fillies' Stakes, a race for debutantes run over 1200m.

A two-year-old Night Of Thunder filly owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud, Choreographic is the daughter of a dual Listed winner in the mare On Her Toes, who was also placed at Group level when achieving a peak rating of 102 after being campaigned over 1200m to 1600m.

Northern Ruler can make it a double at the Surrey venue for the Haggas team by getting off the mark in the Get Raceday Ready/EBF Novice Stakes.

The Kingman three-year-old has run twice to date, making his debut at Windsor and finishing the runner-up before taking the same spot when stepped up to 2000m at Yarmouth.

He returns over the same trip at Lingfield poised to get a win under his belt having faced some well-bred rivals previously and showed significant promise.

Roger Teal's Distant Rumble can step up in the Bet £20 Get £20 With Dragonbet EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes at Bath.

The chestnut was the runner-up over this course and distance last time out, going down by 1.5-lengths when running on late and seeming to appreciate the extra 100m.

He will be one of the more experienced horses in this field and can go one better under Jack Mitchell.

At Kempton, John and Thady Gosden's Byblos can pounce at the first time of asking in the Unibet More Extra Place Races Novice Stakes.

The Frankel colt is out of Bird Flown, dam of dual Group One-winner Siskin, making this runner's pedigree hard to look past as he makes his debut under Kieran Shoemark.

Elsewhere on the Kempton card it is Goblet Of Fire who appeals in the Unibet Support Safe Gambling Apprentice Handicap, a rare runner on the Flat for Nicky Henderson and one who has been reliable since switching to the level. - Press Association
