VALENTINE’S DAY AT FAIRVIEW

February 2025

Henk Steenkamp

The mouthwatering clash between Khaya’s Hope and Luna Halo is the highlight of Friday’s Valentine’s meeting on the Fairview Turf track.

Luna Halo (Alan Greeff) is the only filly in the field of eight runners in the Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m – race six of eight at 15:22.

She won the Lady’s Bracelet (NBT) easily in her last start and the daughter of Fire Away should make it very difficult for the males to win this one.

Khaya’s Hope (Gavin Smith) nearly won the Fairview Merchants (NBT) last month. If he can improve on that run, he will be difficult to beat.

He has won three times and finished second once from five starts over track and trip.

The rest of the field will probably battle to beat the top two but keep an eye on Pyromaniac (Jacques Strydom).

His last start was an eye-catching one when he ran on smartly.

The top stables of Greeff and Smith are in absolute red-hot form and will once again be major players throughout the day.

Greeff should provide punters with a banker in the first leg of the Place Accumulator, race two at 13:00.

Ono No Komachi looks very hard to beat in an Open Maiden for fillies and mares over 1900m.

Nothingelsematters is a huge runner for the Smith yard in race four, a Classified Stakes over 2400m.

The first race is off at 12:25 – as always, let’s give it a go!
