TAB official payouts on Race 8 at the Vaal on Thursday were changed after it was realised that the official result as posted by the National Horseracing Authority (NHA) judge was incorrect.
According to the NHA stipendiary stewards’ report on the race “the result of 11-5-3-4-12 was called by the judge to the stipendiary stewards’ boardroom. As this finishing order was correct, permission for this all-clear result to be disseminated was granted. However, when capturing the result, the judge incorrectly disseminated the result as 11-5- 4-3-12”.
The judge’s error was only spotted after TAB official payouts for the race had been declared and TAB then corrected both the result and the payouts.
TAB accountholder balances were automatically corrected to reflect the correct result and payouts. Any TAB retail customer who discarded winning Place, Swinger, Trifecta and Quartet tickets because of the incorrect official result must lodge a claim with TAB Customer Care (0861 444 822 or email customercare@4racing.com) or the manager of the outlet at which the bet was taken.
The same applies to TAB retail customers who were underpaid for winning bets as a result of cashing their tickets before the result was corrected. As an example, the Place Accumulator payout increased from R66.80 to R102.80 when the official payouts were corrected - any retail customer who collected the lower payout can lodge a claim for the amount they were underpaid.
TAB apologises to affected customers for the error and is investigating why TAB raceday auditors and operations staff did not notice the judge’s error in the first instance. Disciplinary action will be instituted if appropriate.
The NHA also intends to take internal disciplinary action if further investigation confirms the prima facie evidence that the judge entered the incorrect result.
