Up-and-coming youngsters to show their class

November 2024

Jack Milner

Some promising three-year-olds will be in action at Turffontein on Thursday when they race on the inside track.

All of One Party, Hair Trigger and Destiny Of Fire will be taking on their elders and all three look to oppose.

Perhaps the best of the trio comes up in Race 8 where Mike de Kock sends out filly Destiny Of Fire. This Master Of My Fate filly confirmed the potential she showed when winning on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville by finishing a close second in the Non-Black Type Beach Beauty Mile at Hollywoodbets Greyville a month ago.

She makes her handicap debut in Race 8 over 1450m off an unchanged mark in what is a considerably weaker contest.

Kabelo Matsunyane takes the ride for the first time.

Fanie Bronkhorst-trained One Party caught the eye in her two-year-old sprints, finishing third on both occasions – on debut in open company over 1160m and in a 1200m Vaal Maiden Juvenile Plate.

This daughter of One World improved for the step up to 1450m to open her account on the Inside track at Turffontein in late June, and she followed that up with a commendable fifth on her handicap debut against older female rivals in mid-July.

She then came back from a three-month break to finish a close-up second in a handicap over 1000m, a distance patently shorter than ideal.
It will not be easy in Race 5 over 1450m as she carries 60.5kg and has to give weight to older males but she looks good enough to succeed.

Gavin Lerena rides One Party for the first time and will also be aboard Roy Magner-trained Hair Trigger in Race 6 over 1450m.

On his seasonal debut Hair Trigger finished a respectable fourth behind highly touted Heather's Boy and confirmed the strength of that form with a start-to-finish 1200m maiden victory on the Inside track in late September, beating year-older subsequent winner Remains Of The Day.
