Racing in the Western Cape returns to Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday day and to celebrate the event there will be two Non-Black Type feature races staged at the course.
The first comes up in Race 5 and is the Cape Point Stakes over 1400m and a race later sees the running of the Magnolia Stakes for fillies and mares over 1200m.
Both races are dominated by runners from the Justin Snaith and Candice Bass-Robinson yards. Snaith has four of the eight runners in the Cape Point Stakes and Bass-Robinson two, while in the Magnolia Stakes there is a field of seven runners with Snaith and Bass-Robinson saddling three apiece.
So, it would certainly come as no surprise for the two stables to fight out the finishes but it could be Snaith who comes out the better.
While he is not among the best-weighted runners in the Cape Point Stakes, Royal Aussie ticks all the other boxes. He is an improving three-year-old, has an excellent record over the course and distance and will be ridden by Richard Fourie.
His most recent victory was in the R7.5-million World Sports Betting Gold Rush over 1600m at the course and that pushed his earnings in excess of R5.2 million.
He has run three times over 1400m at this course for two wins and a third place and in the latter case he was beaten just 0.30 lengths in his first run back from a rest.
Snaith also has good back up with Tout A Fait and We’re Jamming.
The Magnolia Stakes should be slightly tougher for Snaith as while Kwinta’s Light with Grant van Niekerk up does look the one to beat, Bass-Robinson has two very strong runners in Golden Hostess and Gimme’s Lassie who are the two best weighted runners.
This race should produce a thrilling finish.
