Two bankers at Kenilworth

While there are some particularly tricky races at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth today, there are two events for maidens in the middle of the card that could provide punters with Pick 6 bankers.

While neither looks likely to set the racing world alight, both stand out in their respective fields so it could be worth, as Abba once chanted, to take a chance on them. It also gives one the opportunity to load the other legs of the exotic bets, particularly the Pick 6.

Brett Crawford and Louis Mxothwa team up with Ilha Da Mauricia in Race 5, a Maiden Special Weights for fillies and mares over 1800m. This daughter of Silvano has only raced three times, finishing close-up on all three occasions. Her first two races were over 1200m which were clearly too short for her, but it was her last start, her first attempt at 1600m, that really caught the eye.

She was up with the pace the whole way and led the field going through the 400m but was caught by Saartjie, who went off the 28-10 favourite, in the closing stages. The winner does look quite decent so it was not a bad run at all.

Based on breeding Ilha Da Mauricia looks sure to enjoy the extra 200m and there does not appear to be any rival of Saartjie’s ability in this line-up.

The Crawford-trained filly is well drawn at No 4 which should give Mxothwa the opportunity to get her well placed.

If one does look past her the race becomes highly competitive but the runner most likely to follow her home is Glen Puller-trained Destined To Dance who has been runner-up in her last two races, finished a 2.25-length second to Soft Touch over 2000m last time.

Vaughan Marshall has some promising runners at this meeting, and best of them all looks to be Impetuous in Race 6, a Maiden Plate over 2000m.

This three-year-old son of William Longsword has only raced four times, and very much like Ilha Da Mauricia, has not been beaten badly in any of them. He put up his best performance so far last time out when he contested a Maiden Special Weights event over 2000m where he finished a 2.75 fourth behind Cosmic Event in November.

Two winners have already come out of this form line, including second-placed Ready Or Not, but what is even of more significance is that the winner has run twice since, finishing a close-up second on both occasions.

Marshall seems to have found the right race for Impetuous as this is not the strongest of fields and he really stands out. The booking of Richard Fourie for this ride also sends a positive message.
