Top entry for Daily News 2000

May 2023

Jack Milner

Other than Charles Dickens, the best three-year-olds in the country have been nominated for the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday 27 May.

The 15 entries include Splashout Grade 1 Cape Derby winner and Hollywoodbets Durban July favourite See It Again, Grade 1 World Sports Betting SA Classic champion Anfields Rocket, Grade 1 WSB SA Derby victor Son Of Raj, Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes winner Cousin Casey as well as Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas champ Eye Of The Prophet.

Also run on the day is the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 which is no longer restricted to three-year-olds and is open to fillies and mares at weight for age.

Injury deprived Rain In Holland of a run in this race as a three-year-old but as a result of the change of conditions, Sean Tarry’s charge will get a second bite of the cherry this year.

The nominations have attracted 16 runners which also includes last season’s Grade 2 Gold Bracelet winner, run over the same course and distance, Marina, as well as last year’s Woolavington winner Silver Darling.

Among the three-year-olds entered are Grade1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic victrix Bless My Stars, Grade 2 SA Oaks winner None Other and WSB Fillies Guineas champion Peach Daiquiri.

Also run at the meeting is the Grade 3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup over 2400m.

Supplementary entries close at 11am on Friday.
