Singapore racing continues on Saturday with an exciting 10-race card featuring both turf and dirt events.
Promising three-year-old Tommy Gun is poised to redeem himself in the $75,000 Novice race over 1400m. Tommy Gun, trained by Tim Fitzsimmons, defied a betting drift during his local debut two starts ago, impressively winning a $75k Restricted Maiden race.
This performance came as no surprise, given his strong Australian form prior to import. However, his most recent outing saw him falter due to a fast pace on a rain-soaked track, causing him to weaken in the final stretch and finish 12th, six lengths behind over 1400m.
Notably, Sousui, who experienced a similar run in transit that day, has since bounced back to secure a victory. This bodes well for Tommy Gun, who, despite being the highest-rated horse, benefits from not carrying the heaviest weight under this week’s racing conditions.
He is well-positioned to clinch his second career win.
In the final race of the programme, rising three-year-old Big Union is set to secure back-to-back victories in the $50,000 Class 4 race over 1200m on the Polytrack.
Big Union finished a commendable second in a similar Class 4 race two starts ago, and it was no surprise that he received significant market support when he dropped to Restricted Maiden company last time out.
The Jerome Tan-trained gelding dominated the competition, effortlessly pulling away to win by 3.75 lengths over 1100m.
Given his strong performance in Class 4 two starts back, Big Union should have no trouble handling the rise in class this week. With further improvement expected, he is likely to be a strong contender once again. - iRACE magazine
