Time for Arverni King’s coronation

While there are some interesting horses and races earlier in the card at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, the final race on the day offers what looks like the best bet on the card.

Arverni King could also jump at attractive odds as the Maiden Plate over 1600m appears competitive – but he has the best form.

In recent times he has run in stronger races than arch-rival Political Party and as a result is rated four points higher and boasts a heady 82 merit rating, which is high for a maiden.

He disappointed a little when 5.70 lengths behind marginally lesser fancied stablemate Aurora Storm in third last time, but that was his first run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and he has been gelded since.

Aurora Storm impressed in that race and runs in the Listed Model Man Mile (Race 7) 35 minutes earlier. He enjoyed dictating throughout but may battle to have his own way in a race that could reveal some potential stars.

It might be off season in KwaZulu-Natal but horses like See It Again (closely related to legendary Do It Again), champion filly Canadian Summer and the horse who beat See It Again in the maidens, Captain Casey, who showed class in a Grade 2 after that, could give local fans something to look forward to.

Any of these could go on to compete in bigger races on the Highveld and in the Western Cape.

Sun Blushed is another interesting runner and he also contests a high-class event in Race 2, a MR 96 Handicap over 1200m. Like See It Again, Sun Blushed is a Michael Roberts-trained three-year-old who has quality all about him.

In fact, he was probably the most forward of Roberts’ runners as he was the only youngster entered in a Grade 2 during KwaZulu-Natal’s champion season and he almost pulled that race off (finishing ahead of Captain Casey).

While he has earned a high rating and also concedes better draws to some steely sprinters, he still appears the one to be with.

For a bit of value it may pay to side with Lucky Miss in Race 4. This filly won her maiden at Greyville over 1600m but later showed she may be at her best over 1400m. This will be her first try at 1400m at this course. She could be worth an each-way bet.
