There’s an air of pride at Greyville

Dean Kannemeyer once again has some useful runners in action at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday when they race on the Polytrack.

In fact, he could have the best bet on the card in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m, where he sends out An Air Of Pride. The three-year-old daughter of Capetown Noir has had plenty of chances but there are a few things that point to her finally cracking her maiden.

The first is that after a three-and-a-half month rest she has returned to produce two very good races, the first of which was over this course and distance, where she finished a 1.80-length second behind Miss Platina.

An Air Of Pride then dropped in distance to 1000m in a race run on the turf and did well to end up a 1.25-length third to Icy Eleanor.

This will be her third run after the rest and back on the Polytrack over a more effective distance, she could prove hard to beat.

Craig Zackey has been aboard this filly in her last eight starts and returns for a ninth attempt to get her into the winners’ enclosure.

Zackey, however, will not be aboard Kannemeyer’s other strong prospect, Rosh Kedesh, because this four-year-old Vercingetorix gelding will carry just 52kg in Race 6, a MR 98 Handicap over 1400m, and he cannot ride at that weight.

Rosh Kedesh is based in Cape Town, and in his first visit to KwaZulu-Natal last season had one run on the Polytrack which he won with ease. His first run back in Durban this season was also on the poly, but over 1200m, which is a touch sharp for him.

Nonetheless, he produced a flying finish to end up a 3.30-length second to Common Ground, who has won again.
