Trainer Sean Tarry on Saturday yet again proved that when it comes to the big racedays, he deserves special attention.
Tarry took the honours in the Monaco Sport Of Kings Charity Maiden Sprint over 1160m with Silver Tudor, ridden by Richard Fourie.

“We always had doubts about him going down the straight, because the last time he raced down the straight he disappointed,” said Tarry after the race.

“But he was gelded subsequently and obviously that is exactly what he needed.

“Well done to Richard. He rode a beautiful race.”

Silver Tudor didn’t just win this unique maiden race, but won it convincingly, beating the Stuart Pettigrew-trained Iron Sky by 5 lengths. Paul Matchett’s Law Of Success was third with the Tony Peter-trained Raptor Island completing the Quartet, which paid a whopping R39,292.

The Monaco Sport Of Kings Charity Maiden Sprint has unique entry conditions aimed at giving as many owners of maidens as possible a chance at winning. The race is open to all maidens which have run at least three times and allowed for one horse per trainer at ballot stage until a maximum field of 18 was drawn – giving smaller stables a chance to get a runner into the race.

The Monaco Sport Of Kings Charity Maiden Sprint also offers prize money totalling R300,000 with the winner earning R187,500 for connections.
