World Of Alice is among the entries for the R6-million Betway Summer Cup over 2000m on the Standside track at Turffontein on 29 November and the Sean Tarry-trained filly will make her seasonal comeback at the Vaal on Thursday.
She is carded to line up in Race 5, a Graduation Plate for fillies and mares over 1450m on the Classic track. At this stage, the four-year-old filly is lying in 20th place on the first Summer Cup Log issued by 4Racing and that means she could easily get displaced should one of those not yet in the top 20 make a forward move in the next couple of weeks.
World Of Alice was last seen in action in the Tote Oaks over 2400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on 14 June when she ended up in 6th place behind She’s A Bomber. However, she appears to have suffered the fate of many runners having their first outing on the Maritzburg track and “got lost” in early stages of the race. Nevertheless, she finished well enough to go down just 5.45 lengths.
World Of Alice comes into this Graduation Plate as the best weighted runner by some way and is at least 3kg better weighted than the rest of her opposition. In addition, one might assume that 1450m might be a touch short for the daughter of One World but she could race freshly and she did win the Fillies Mile over 1600m at Turffontein last year.
As a result, she must be included in exotics bets, especially with in-form Serino Moodley in the irons.
However, Tarry has another runner in the field and that is Tina Lovelace. This three-year-old daughter of Danon Platina may only be a one-time winner but has she put up some outstanding performances.
Her last run was in the Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville where she finished a 2.25-lengths second to Alan Greeff-trained star Golden Palm.
She also contested the Grade 2 Golden Slipper on HWB Durban July day but had an insurmountable obstacle to overcomes when drawn No 14 out of 14 over 1400m at Greyville. Forced to race wide, she never got into the race but still ran on well enough to go down just 3.85 lengths to another Greeff star, unbeaten Anotherdanceforme.
It does not end there. Go back to 7 June Tina Lovelace contested the Listed Devon Air Stakes over 1400m at Greyville when she also finished second, beaten 2.60 lengths by Quickstepgal. That winner went on to finish second in the Golden Slipper and then came out to win her comeback run over 1400m at Greyville on 12 October by three lengths. Tienie Prinsloo’s charge has now won four of her six starts.
Tina Lovelace is the second best weighted runner and Tarry has engaged Craig Zackey for the ride. This filly is ideally distance suited and has the class to win a race of this nature.
The other runner to take into account is Corne Spies-trained Elegantrix. This three-year-old daughter of Vercingetorix also has some strong Grade 1 form as she ran second behind Direct Hit (the third Greeff superstar) in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship over 1200m at HWB Scottsville over.
The only concern about this filly is that she has loads of speed and has failed in her only start over 1400m. However, she is highly talented and also needs to be included in all bets. Kabelo Matsunyane takes the ride.
