Jack Milner: Tarantino can finally end his frustrating run of second places at Fairview when he lines up in Race 4 on the Polytrack on Tuesday.
Global Drummer is arguably the best horse to come out of Port Elizabeth for many years.
He has run 12 times for nine wins and two places. His only unplaced run came in the Listed Juvenile Summer Stakes over 1200m at Kenilworth on Met day last year when he finished 4.05 lengths behind Erik The Red.
As a result, trainer Justin Snaith and the connections of Tarantino are no doubt delighted Global Drummer will not be lining up in Race 4 at Fairview on Tuesday, a Novice Plate over 1200m on the Polytrack.
Tarantino has made three previous visits to Fairview and in each case he has had to play second fiddle to trainer Gavin Smith’s star performer
On this occasion the Master Of My Fate gelding has the opportunity to open his account at Fairview and looks hard to oppose.
Tarantino probably needed his last run when a 2.70-length fourth behind Irish Morning over 1200m at Kenilworth in soft going, his first race after a three-month break. Tarantino has more or less run to his rating all season so another big run from him can be expected.
He comes into this race as joint highest-rated runner with Johan Janse van Vuuren-trained Action Packed. However, one can argue Action Packed achieved his rating with a fourth-placed finish behind Erik The Red at Greyville last year and that he did not run up to his merit rating in either of his two starts this year.
Both runners, however, will be having their first run on the Polytrack, so that could be a factor.
Francois Herholdt will be riding Tarantino while apprentice Kyle Strydom will be taking 1.5kg off the back of Action Packed.
