Talented youngsters in action

September 2022

Jack Milner

There is some interesting racing at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Tuesday which sees some talented young runners making their three-year-old debuts.

Perhaps the most interesting event comes up in Race 2, a Graduation Plate for fillies and mares over 1250m, where four-year-old Kwinta’s Light takes on a couple of up-and-coming stable companions. All three are trained by Justin Snaith and are expected to fight out the finish.

Ciao Bella, who is out of multiple Grade 1 winning mare Bela-Bela, and Pucallpa are highly thought of three-year-old fillies who it could pay to follow later this summer, but best-weighted stablemate Kwinta's Light should have their measure.

Based on merit ratings, Kwinta’s Light is 8.5kg and 10.5kg better off respectively with her two stablemates, but that is not necessarily an accurate assessment. Ciao Bella has only raced three times and could be way better than her current mark, as can Pucallpa, who has only had four runs.

In addition, the latter did win her only race at Durbanville and that counts for a lot on a course that troubles many runners.

But Richard Fourie, who makes a belated return to race-riding in the Western Cape, is aboard Kwinta’s Light, and that could be significant.

Another worthwhile contest comes up in Race 6, a Classified Stakes over 1400m. Snaith-trained Master Of My Fate colt Innamorare was a dominant winner under Fourie over 1400m eight weeks ago and appears a progressive type who could follow up. He is nicely drawn at No 4

However, Brett Crawford-trained Le Morne overcame his inexperience to win over this distance on debut and should, with natural improvement, have more to offer. Louis Mxothwa rode the Futura colt to victory that day and retains the ride.

Boxing the pair in Swingers and Exactas is an attractive betting proposition.
