Joburg’s most famous race, the Betway Summer Cup, takes pride of place on the sporting calendar this weekend, but TAB soccer customers also have much to look forward to with a range of cash-boosted bets and fascinating matches in the English Premier League, Betway Premiership and African club competitions.
There are no fewer than five cash-boosted TAB soccer bets this weekend, including R150,000-added Soccer10 pools tonight and tomorrow, plus Saturday’s Soccer 13 has a guaranteed R18-million Jackpot if there’s a single all-13-correct winner. And there’s a R250,000 carryover to the weekend’s Soccer Any 13 Xtra, in which unlike the regular Soccer 13, you get to choose which 13 games you want to bet on.
Midweek results from Champions, Europa and Conference league games must be taken into account when making your bets involving EPL clubs. Chelsea were impressive in slamming Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night after a red card reduced the Spanish team to 10 players. Not so impressive were Manchester City and Newcastle, the former going down 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen while Newcastle were beaten 2-1 away by Marseille, now coached by former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi.
City can be excused because Pep Guardiola made too many changes to the starting line-up and they have a relatively easy opportunity to get back on the winning path at home to Leeds tomorrow.
Leeds were doing fairly well initially on their return to the EPL, but travel to Manchester having lost three in a row with their manager Daniel Farke now 8-11 favourite to be the next Premiership boss to get the boot.
The big shock midweek was Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat at home to PSV, their ninth defeat in their last 12 games and one that has resulted in short-lived hero Arne Slot now 7-4 second favourite to be the next EPL manager to be shown the door to the carpark.
It’s one of the worst runs in the club’s history and it will be no surprise if the crisis deepens on Sunday, when they travel to London to play West Ham who are looking more competent daily under new coach Nuno.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are looking more and more likely to win the EPL for the first time in over 20 years. They are now 4-9 favourites and certainly looked the part midweek when they put Bayern Munich to the sword in London.
Their big test comes Sunday when they travel down the road to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what should be a cracking contest. Enzo Maresca’s Blues have moved into second place in the table and can cut the gap at the top to just three points if they win.
That’s a big incentive and Chelsea gave their most impressive performance of the season so far against Barcelona with 18-year-old Brazilian Willian Estevao underlining what a prospect he is with a fantastic individual goal.
Chelsea could also get a big boost with the possible return of Cole Palmer on Sunday, whereas Arsenal have a substantial injury list and will be hoping the injury that forced Leandro Trossard off the pitch against Bayern is not too serious. In their favour they do have former Chelsea winger Noni Madueke back and they should pack too many guns for their inconsistent rivals.
At home Kaizer Chiefs face a tough CAF Conference Cup clash against Egyptian giants Zamalek, a game that is M1 in tomorrow’s cash-boosted Soccer 6 and 10 bets.
Pirates are away to Durban City in M2 in both bets and look a banker to win after a confident victory over Chippa midweek.
There’s a great chance to make Christmas come early next Saturday 6 December. The day’s Soccer13 will offer a guaranteed R43-million pool to be shared by those who correctly forecast all 13 games. Make a date now to take your bet - it’s a chance to become a multi-millionaire in a few hours!
