TWO MUST-WIN MATCHES FOR BAFANA BAFANA
Top-level club soccer in most countries is taking a short break to allow the battle for places at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to continue and there are key clashes galore over the next few days, none more so than South Africa’s remaining two qualifiers - “away” to Zimbabwe in Durban this Friday night and then at home to Rwanda at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit next Tuesday.
TWO R100,000 CARRYOVER SOCCER 10 POOLS
You will find the best international and club games in all TAB soccer pools through the weekend and the good news is that there’s big money to be won, especially in the cash-boosted bets which include two R100,000 carryover Soccer 10s. There are also cash-added Soccer 4 and Any 13 Xtra bets, plus a guaranteed R18-million Jackpot in Saturday’s Soccer 13 in the event of only one outright winner.
An administrative blunder means that Bafana Bafana must win both remaining qualifiers to be certain of a place at the 2026 finals. FIFA deducted three points from South Africa last week because Teboho Mokoena played in the win over Lesotho in March, when he should have been suspended. That sanction has left South Africa trailing Benin on goal difference in Group C and anything but six points from their remaining two games could result in them failing to top the group.
Fortunately, the task of beating Zimbabwe has been made that much easier because their rivals do not have a suitable venue for international competition. Zimbabwe have opted to play the fixture in Durban and that gives South Africa a big advantage which they need to maximise tonight.
That will leave only Rwanda in their path and on paper there’s no reason they shouldn’t win that clash as well, given South Africa are currently ranked 55th in the FIFA international standings with Zimbabwe 125th and Rwanda 127th.
OPT FOR A DRAW IN WC CLASH IN STOCKHOLM
Best advice for the international matches in tonight’s R100,000 carryover Soccer 10 is to bank on a draw in the Sweden-Switzerland clash in Stockholm and for Iceland to win at home against Ukraine.
Switzerland currently top Group B with two wins in as many matches, whereas Sweden have only one point from their first two matches. But Sweden beat their rivals away in their last clash and you can expect an entertaining and closely contested game that is most likely to end in a draw.
The best banker is in the Irish Premier Division clash between log-leaders Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne. Shamrock are currently 17 points ahead of their rivals in the league table and should extend the margin in this clash.
