TAB WEEKEND SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS: 1 - 3 August
NEW MONTH, NEW LEASE ON LIFE FOR TAB SOCCER BETS August is here and from this ...
Read moreAugust is here and from this weekend TAB soccer pools take on a new lease of life with the quarter-final round of the 2025-26 MTN8, long the traditional opening act of a new football season locally. All four MTN8 matches are included in TAB soccer pools on Saturday and Sunday, plus you will find games from the top leagues in Austria, Belgium, Scotland and Switzerland, as well as England's League and Two. The menu is suddenly much more enticing and there are numerous chances to land big wins, especially in cash-added Soccer 10 pools tonight and tomorrow.
Orlando Pirates last season became the first club to win three successive MTN8 titles and at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto tomorrow they begin their quest to win it four years running.
They are pitted against Polokwane City in the first of the MTN8 quarter-final clashes and what everybody is waiting to see is whether the Buccaneers are as good as they were last season.
José Riveiro took Pirates to a new level and three MTN8 titles in a row, plus two Nedbank Cups, but the Spanish coach has moved on to Al Ahly and former Morocco international Abdeslam Ouaddou in now in the hot seat at the Soweto club.
The ex-Fulham centre-back's appointment to the helm of Pirates came as something of a surprise. The 46-year-old was in charge of Marumo Gallants for only a few months and did not have an outstanding record with the Bloemfontein-based team.
And on top of a new coach Pirates have a new captain and 11 new players, while former captain Innocent Maela, Monnapule Saleng and young attacker Mohau Nkota, who sealed a move to Saudi side Al Ettifaq, have left.
Pirates' new signings include Bafana Bafana regular Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and midfield strongman Sihle Nduli from Stellenbosch.
Obviously it's going to take a few games for Pirates to gel, but there's no shortage of talent and they should be too sharp for Polokwane. Banker them to win in tomorrow's R100,000-added Soccer 10, as well as Rangers away to Motherwell in M10 in the pool.
Later in the day Sekhukhune United are at home to TS Galaxy in the second of the quarters-finals and they should have the edge in a competitive contest. They have also brought plenty in several new players and a new coach in Eric Tinkler.
On Sunday Stellenbosch at home should be too good for AmaZulu, who they beat 5-0 away in Durban last season and then at home towards the end of the campaign.
The final MTN8 clash of the weekend sees Sundowns at home to Richards Bay, a game many will expect the reigning PSL champs to win comfortably. But Sundowns have only been back at training for just over a week after the exertions of the Club World Cup in the USA - so if you are looking for a surprise result, add the draw in your Soccer 10 perms.
