Superstylin looks a cut above at Plumpton

January 2026

Chris Gordon does well at Plumpton where Superstylin can defy top-weight in the Southern Cranes Handicap Chase on Monday.

Not only is Gordon on the verge of having his best season numerically, the quality has also improved and he is enjoying a great time of things with the likes of Bass Hunter.

Superstylin had been building up a series of really good efforts before gaining a deserved win last time out.

It was a weak race he won on Boxing Day, hence the handicapper only put him up 5lb for winning by 19 lengths, but you could only be happy with that Fontwell display.

Since having a tongue tie applied four runs ago he has yet to finish outside of the first three and looks certain to give another good account.

Nicky Henderson's Quay Item catches the eye in the Howden Insurance Brokers Maiden Hurdle.

He was third on his hurdling debut at Doncaster behind Matty's Getaway, who looks useful, and Dalston Lad, a winner since.

That was Quay Item's first run for over a year so he is well entitled to come on for the run and Nico de Boinville takes the ride.

Another chance is given to one-time Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly in the Legendary Jimmy James 90th Birthday Novices' Hurdle.

James Owen's charge has won once from three starts over obstacles so far, earning himself a rating of 118. Connections will be hoping he can improve on that rating to ensure he can target a notable prize in the spring.

Alan King's Ski Lodge has been second the last three times but his resolution can not be called into question.

He goes in the At The Races App Expert Tips Novices' Handicap Chase at Hereford and a repeat of his last effort when second to Paddy O'Mahler at Haydock should be good enough to see him end his frustrating run.

Given he acts well with cut in the ground, conditions should suit.

On the all-weather, Scott Dixon's Grey Horizon can bring up his hat-trick in division one of the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk Handicap at Wolverhampton.

He won off a mark of 60 at Southwell and then defied a 5lb rise with the minimum of fuss at Dunstall Park.

Life will be harder still with another 3lb on his back, but he looks a three-year-old on the up.

Karl Burke's Get An Attitude looks the one to be with in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Fillies' Novice Stakes.

The daughter of No Nay Never has finished second in both her races to date but has shown enough promise to suggest she will be winning races.

First time out she was very heavily backed into odds-on favouritism but was beaten by one with plenty of experience and more recently she had no chance against a Godolphin hotpot. - Press Association
