The withdrawal of Sound Of Warning from Race 6, a Pinnacle Stakes for fillies and mares over 1160m, at Turffontein on Thursday, has opened the door for stable companion Full Velocity. Like Sound Of Warning, this four-year-old daughter of Philanthropist contested the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint at Scottsville 12 days ago and actually produced a faster last 400m than winner Captain’s Ransom to finish sixth, just 2.55 lengths behind the winner.
She takes a considerable drop in class this time and could provide in-form Keagan de Melo with another victory.
Sound Of Summer probably needed his last race when beaten 1.20 lengths by Willow Magic following a three-month break. Paul Peter’s charge will come on with that run and looks the one they will all have to beat in Race 7, another Pinnacle Stakes, this time over 1400m.
Willow Express was also carded to run in this race but he has also been pulled out.
Sound Of Summer, who will have Warren Kennedy on his back, is unbeaten in two starts over the course and distance.
William Robertson enjoyed the drop to a sprint trip at Greyville on Saturday to run out a very easy 3.90-length winner over Grade 1 Computaform Sprint champion Master Archie. As a result, he has been penalised for that victory and will now carry 58kg, 4kg more than carded.
Even with that extra weight, Corne Spies’ runner has to be considered a contender in this field. S’manga Khumalo, who rode him at Greyville, has retained the ride.
