It has never been easy to find winners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville but there look to be some decent bets on Monday’s nine-race card.
The final race on the card has been called “the getting out stakes” and this time punters could rely on trainer Dean Kannemeyer and jockey Craig Zackey to “do the business” with Industrialstrength.
This five-year-old son of Gimmethegreenlight is an honest performer and has only raced nine times for two wins, a second and a third. He is also one of those rare horses who runs well at both Durbanville and Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
What is also relevant is that he was gelded in March and has only run twice since then, both excellent performances. He celebrated his first comeback with an emphatic 1.75-length victory over Boogified at Kenilworth in June and then only had his next start on 9 September at Durbanville, finishing strongly to run a 0.75-length second behind Major Master.
Both of those runs were over 1400m and this time he will contest a Class 4 Handicap over 1600m, a distance over which he does not have a good record.
However, the manner in which he finished his last start gives one the impression that now gelded and having his third run since having the surgery, he should have no issue with the additional 200m.
He also has the benefit of jumping from No 1 draw.
Richard Fourie is top form currently and he should come home with a couple of victories on the day. His best could be Justin Snaith-trained Gold Giboski in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1250m.
So far, this three-year-old son of Gold Standard has been costly to follow for those who have backed him to win. He has placed in all of his five starts but what is significant was his last run, his first at Durbanville, when he was only caught late by United Front in a race over 1400m.
Snaith has made a few adjustments this time, the first being the addition of blinkers. The drop to 1250m also looks to be a shrewd move and, of course, the decision to engage Fourie could be the masterstroke.
From gate No 1 with Fourie aboard for the first time, similar tactics will likely be adopted and the first-time headgear should have Gold Giboski sharp enough for this shorter trip.
