Stick with Sosie and Fabre in the Arc

October 2024

Sosie can seal a remarkable ninth triumph for trainer Andre Fabre in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Fabre claimed his first victory in the ParisLongchamp feature with Trempolino back in 1987, while his most recent success was with Waldgeist in 2019, ensuring a win in each of the last four decades.

In Sosie he has an ideal candidate to extend that run to a fifth as he tries to emulate the trainer's Rail Link, who followed the same route of winning the Grand Prix de Paris and Prix Niel on his way to Arc glory in 2006.

Sosie reversed Prix du Jockey Club form with Look De Vega in his Niel trial, turning around a 2.25-length Classic defeat into a 3.5-length beating last month.

While Look De Vega had his excuses, Sosie has thrived since moving up to 2400m and can continue his upwards trajectory.

Tribalist could then cap a fine day for Fabre with victory in the Prix de la Foret after his all-the-way win in the Prix du Moulin last month.

Rogue Lightning can upgrade last year's fifth in the Prix de l'Abbaye for Tom Clover despite having failed to strike in five starts so far this year.

He ran a fine trial at the Paris track last month, with soft ground really playing to his strengths.

Rashabar could spring a minor surprise in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere after chasing home Whistlejacket last time out, as Brian Meehan's charge looks primed for a move up to 1400m now.

Aidan O'Brien rarely leaves Arc day without a winner and Content can be on the scoresheet for Ballydoyle in the Prix de l'Opera.

It is more mundane action on offer in Britain, but L'Eau De Sud merits close attention in the Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice Novices' Chase at Uttoxeter.

Second in both the Betfair and County Hurdles last term, he rounded out his campaign with a narrow fifth in the Scottish Champion Hurdle.

Switched to fences now, L'Eau De Sud should enjoy the decent ground here.

Traveling Soldier can make it second time lucky in the Century Racing Club Maiden Hurdle.

An initial bumper fourth was followed by a length defeat at the first attempt over obstacles, with this 4000m trip looking more to his liking.
