Start with a winning double

Smith-trained Admiral’s Shine finished second on debut over 800m on New Year’s Day and, with expected improvement, should go one better in Race 1 and set the tone for the day.

Valkyries Song, Wylie Winx and Zacpack Assassin are the other runners in the race with previous race experience, but they were well beaten by Admiral’s Shine on debut and the Admiral Kitten colt should again have their measure.

Global Drummer had his winning streak snapped when attempting a six-timer at his last start in a 1200m feature on the turf last Friday. He makes a quick reappearance and steps up to 1400m in Race 2 and should bounce back to winning ways and preserve his unbeaten record over the distance.

There are also two feature Non-Black Type races on the card, the Lakeside Handicap over 2400m and the Fairview Mile over 1600m. Only seven runners o to post for the Lakeside Handicap but one could make a case for all of them.

However, Africa Gold has run well over the course and distance and Alan Greeff’s charge with Teaque Gould up. The biggest threats could come from Aranjuez and Onesie.

The Fairview Mile looks far more punter friendly and is likely to be a straight clash between Earth Hour and Rock Aloe although the latter has won three out of three over the course and distance but Earth Hour has taken on a lot stronger.
