Two in-form runners stand out on Hollywoodbets Scottsville seven-race programme on Sunday.
Soho Star, who denied Vihaan’s Web a third successive victory, with a sensational win looks to have an easier task this time while Global Movement, who has also been running with stronger, can relish a drop in class in his heat at his preferred track.
Soho Star, it must be said, was given a peach of a ride in that last race from champion jockey Gavin Lerena. Soho Star, a well-bred son of What A Winter, got up to end Gareth van Zyl’s resolute frontrunner Vihaan’s Web winning run but it is not just that run that is of a high calibre.
His last three runs are superb. Horses such as Quandary, Mojo Man, Thisiswhatitmeans (has won multiple races since), Connery and more recently Licence To Thrill have come out to win subsequently. To stave off hikes in merit ratings the Yogas Govender-trained gelding now gets to benefit from a 2.5kg apprentice claim which means he is better off at the weights with some runners he has beaten soundly.
Apprentice Mxolisi Mbuto has been riding well of late and with Vihaan’s Web not in the race, he should not find it difficult to reel in the frontrunners in the field in Race 8, a Class 3 Handicap over 1200m.
Global Movement, who lines up in Race 5, took a while to win his maiden but has since developed into a useful handicapper and after running creditable races against horses at higher level such as Rosh Kedesh, My Boy Lollipop and Serpentine Fire, he is dropped in class and could finally add an overdue win to his tally.
The Tienie Prinsloo inmate has won twice at the course, once over the distance, while some of his rivals such as Galaxy Explorer, Pongola, Richardthefearless and Sail To The Moon have yet to notch a win at Scottsville.
Global Movement has a wide gate to overcome, but it is probably a blessing as he looks best when coming from off the pace. He is partnered by Muzi Yeni, a regular top-four finisher in the jockeys’ championship, and one who has started off the new season with a bang.
