Spring is in the PE air

October 2020

Jack Milner: It is almost becoming boring as once again punters look to trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Greg Cheyne to provide the best bet on a Fairview card.

On Monday the answer could lie in Race 5 with Colorado Springs, who contests a MR 64 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m on the Polytrack.

The Ideal World filly has quite an impressive record with a win and three second places from her four starts. She is another of those runners who seems comfortable on both turf and Polytrack but it is worth noting that her maiden victory, two runs back, was over this course and distance.

Last time Greeff put her over 900m and she was probably a tad unlucky not to win that race.

Colorado Springs was drawn at No 14 of the 15 horses so it was not really a surprise that she was slowly away and ended up a long way out of her ground. Nevertheless, she quickened nicely but the line came just too son, and she ended up 0.75 lengths behind Mary Moon.

That form should be good enough to beat these rivals especially as Cheyne will have the benefit of jumping from pole position this time.

Another trainer who looks set for a good day is Zietsman Oosthuizen. He probably would have liked to have had more winners by now in the Eastern Cape but they are starting to come and he saddles 13 runners today.

He particularly has a very strong hand in Race 3 as both Geoffrey Palace and Edo Furin have decent winning chances and that Swinger looks an excellent bet.
