The R200 000 Betway Insurebet Speedsters Stakes is Friday’s feature at Fairview and it might pay off to side with the big stables in an open looking affair.
Top East Cape trainers Gavin Smith and Alan Greeff will saddle most of the runners in this Non-Black Type event over 1000m.
Teatro is the pick of the three Greeff runners and although Stranger Danger is a former winner of this race, Slim Jannie looks the best of the Smith runners.
There is very little to choose between Teatro and Slim Jannie. The last time they met Slim Jannie, carrying 1.5kgs less, won by 0.25 lengths. Now the difference is only 0.50kgs and it should be another exciting battle between these two.
The only Cape Town visitor is Hammies Hero from the Candice Bass-Robinson yard. He is known as a bit of a difficult customer but is an interesting runner not to be taking lightly.
Inherit The Rain (Greeff) will be coming with a late run to try and catch the frontrunners and don’t forget about the old man What A Winner (Juan Nel).
The Speedster Stakes is the seventh of the eight races and jumps at 15:50.
The meeting starts at 12:25 with the popular Work Riders Maiden Plate. This is also the first leg of the Bipot.
Acorn (Kelly Mitchley) can’t be left out of your bets in the second race, the first leg of the Place Accumulator at 12:55.
Mohandas (Nel) is the horse to beat in the third race which will jump at 13:30 but is drawn widest of all. The Betway Back The Boks Open Maiden is also the first leg of the Pick Six.
With the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup taking place about six hours after this race, it could be worth including Opening Ceremony (Duncan McKenzie) in your bets for this race.
Ilha Da Mauricia (Nel) and Unyielding (Greeff) should fight it out for the win in the fourth race when the first Jackpot starts at 14:05.
The three-year-old filly Luna Halo (Greeff) looks the standout in race five, the first leg of the second Jackpot, at 14:40.
Great Melody (Smith) is a well-deserved favourite in the eighth and last race, off at 16:25, but by now we all know the last at Fairview can produce some huge results, so include your other fancies also.
