Sovereign State to lead the way

There are a number of relevant scratchings on Monday’s card at Hollywoodbets Greyville where they race on the Polytrack.

Babylon in Race 1 National Dream in Race 6 and Mini Coop in Race 7 all had lively winning chances in their respective races, but Babylon and Mini Coop are the victims of the unavailability of transport from the Highveld while National Dream, who was chasing his fourth successive victory at the course, is under veterinary treatment.

The withdrawals put a different complexion on the meeting and it could be trainer Frank Robinson and jockey Sean Veale who could provide bettors with the best bet on the card.

It is the same combination that did us all a favour last Wednesday with Mexican Pete and they look likely to come the party again in Race 7 when they team up with Sovereign State.

This three-year-old Visionaire gelding made his appearance last month and notched up two successive victories. He found strong support at long odds on debut, shortening from 40-1 to 16-1. That was over 1000m and despite losing four lengths at the start, he flew up late to get the better of Star Performer by 0.40 lengths.

Some 17 days later he came out again over 1600m on Polytrack, was once again slow out of the gates and produced the fastest 400m to get the better of Purpleninjaturtle by a long head.

He drops to 1400m in this MR 88 Handicap but that should not stop Sovereign State from scoring a third successive win.

Robert Khathi rode him in his first two races, but Veale gets the ride this time.
