Justin Snaith and Keagan de Melo can get bettors off to a winning start at Hollywoodbets Greyville today when they race on the Polytrack.
Quite a few of these meetings have been producing Pick 6 carryovers of late but the early races appear to be bringing home the bacon, so to speak.
Snaith has Act Naturally in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for three-year-old fillies over 1200m. This daughter of Querari is out of Western Winter mare My Kazzie, trained, as one would expect, by Mike Azzie.
She won four of 16 starts and hopefully her daughter will have picked up a modicum of her ability.
Act Naturally had her first start at Kenilworth in January over 1000m and finished a 3.15-length fourth behind Pacific Green. She did not race again until 29 July at Scottsville in a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares, again over 1200m. She started favourite at 17-10 and although she showed early pace, she was clearly in need of the outing as she faded late to finish sixth, 4.65 lengths behind Harley’s Fate.
She tries 1200m and the Polytrack for the first time is nicely drawn at No 3. De Melo takes the ride and statistics reveal that he was the most successful jockey on this course last season with 59 winners, 15 more than Warren Kennedy who went on to the championship.
One trainer who is hot currently is Glen Kotzen and in the last 28 days he has had seven winners, two more than Mike de Kock in second spot with five.
Kotzen sends out Captain Catman in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1600m, and this Captain Of All gelding can add to Kotzen’s tally.
Captain Catman has had four runs on the Polytrack for three seconds, but this is his first run over 1600m and he should enjoy the distance.
Apprentice Gabriell Pieterse will take 1.5kg off his back.
