Jack Milner: It might be a midweek meeting but there are two Listed races on Wednesday’s Kenilworth card – the WSB Perfect Promise Sprint over 1200m for two-year-old fillies and the WSB Somerset 1200 for two-year-olds – Races 6 and 7 respectively.
Justin Snaith sends out three of the six fillies engaged in Race 6 and is confident of top run from Winter Mosaic.
This daughter of What A Winter made a winning debut over 1000m in December and confirmed the promise of that first-up success with consecutive seconds (over 1000m and 1200m) behind highly regarded stable companions High Hosanna and Gimme Dat, respectively. She has been off the track since but word from the Snaith camp is that she is doing well at home and they rate her as the runner to beat, despite the 102-day absence.
Improving last-start winners Mercury Rising and Kwinta’s Light are able back-up for the yard, and both appear capable of picking up the pieces should Winter Mosaic misfire.
Snaith has another three-pronged attack in Race 7 and will be hopeful highly rated Ravensthorpe can complete a Listed double for the yard.
After a quiet introductory fifth on debut, this son of Rafeef knew the job second time out as he waltzed to victory over 1200m by 6.25 lengths over the course and distance. There are expectations he will build on the good impression he left last time to follow up with another win.
He will need to improve, though, to get the better of top-weight African Rain who has the form and experience to expose any chinks in his rival’s armour.
Candice Bass-Robinson will be pinning her hopes on hat-trick seeking Santa Maria in the fillies event and African Rain in Race 7 who, as the only two-time winner in the line-up, must concede weight to all.
