SIBEKO MAKES IT 1,000

When Sibusiso Sibeko scored the goal that sparked a remarkable comeback for Marumo Gallants in their African Confederation Cup victory over Saint Eloi Lupopo last weekend, it brought up a major milestone for South African clubs. Sibeko’s goal was the 1,000th in African club competition for Premier Soccer League teams and was the first of three in five minutes for the Limpopo side as they rallied from 2-0 down to win 3-2. It has taken teams from South Africa 30 years and 646 matches across the now defunct CAF Cup and African Cup Winners’ Cup, and the current Champions League and Confederation Cup to reach the milestone.
