SHOTGUN SHIRLEY READY TO FIRE AT FONTWELL

December 2025

By Chris Phillips, Press Association

Shotgun Shirley can make her hurdling debut a winning one in the Doyle & Palmer Wealth Management Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Fontwell on Monday.

The four-year-old returned from a 212-day break in a Uttoxeter bumper in October and looked like she had never been away as she galloped to a three-quarters-of-a-length victory in Staffordshire.

She was then stepped up in grade at Cheltenham's November meeting and found only Celestial Tune too good, beaten three lengths into second at Prestbury Park.

Lucy Wadham has now decided to send the daughter of Soldier Of Fortune over timber and the step up to two miles three furlongs can be taken in her stride with victory.

Atreides is taken to complete a quickfire double in the Free Bets On attheraces.com Handicap Chase.

The seven-year-old broke his maiden at the 22nd time of asking at Plumpton last week when keeping on well and a 3lb rise in the weights will not hinder his attempts to follow up.

Sleeping Satellite is another looking to follow up in the Edinburgh Rugby 1872 Cup Novices' Handicap Chase at Musselburgh.

The Fergal O'Brien trained seven-year-old won on his last visit to a racecourse at Catterick and will look to defy a rise of 4lbs in Scotland.

Red Oak goes in search of breaking his duck in the Racing TV Maiden Hurdle.

The four-year-old has failed to get his head in front in four attempts under rules but appears primed to ditch the maiden tag after a series of near misses.

He was seventh on his racecourse debut for Ciaran Murphy and followed that up with two second-place finishes before crossing the Irish Sea and joining James Owen.

He stepped up in grade at Ascot and was again second but back down in grade he can finally get his nose in front.

Whenthedealinsdone has course form at Lingfield and can make that count when he switches back to the all-weather for the Make The Move To Midnite Handicap.

Sixth when last seen on the turf at Windsor, a return to the all-weather can bear fruit following a pair of wins at Wolverhampton and another at Lingfield before that switch to turf.

At Wolverhampton, Tewkesbury can build on a debut fourth in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM EBF Maiden Stakes.

The son of Ghaiyyath was beaten just two lengths on his first attempt for Simon and Ed Crisford after racing a bit keenly through the early stages.

He should have learnt for the experience and might not need to improve too much to win here.
