SEA CAN REGAIN QUEBEC CROWN AT LINGFIELD

December 2025

By Ashley Iveson, Press Association

Tyrrhenian Sea is backed to regain his title in the Midnite Quebec Stakes at Lingfield on Wednesday.

Roger Varian's all-weather specialist was a decisive winner of this Listed contest in 2023 and found only the high-class Royal Champion too strong when defending his crown on New Year's Eve last year.

Royal Champion went on to win the Winter Derby and is also now a dual Group Two winner, so there was certainly no shame in Tyrrhenian Sea's performance and two wins and three runner-up finishes from five visits to Lingfield is clear evidence of his liking of the track.

Having been off since June, he made a promising return when third over a mile at Kempton a month ago and that should leave him cherry-ripe for his return to Surrey.

Wild Act is given a second chance to prove his worth in the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk EBF Novice Stakes.

Charlie Appleby's juvenile is a half-brother to a couple of black type mares in Whispering Dream and Wild Goddess, but has presumably not been entirely straightforward given he was gelded before he made his recent Southwell debut and was fitted with a hood.

He was ultimately too keen to do himself justice off a slow pace and faltered late on to finish a well beaten fifth, but perhaps that run will have taken some fizz out of him and he slots into a race which does not look like it will take a lot of winning.

Clearpoint can continue his fantastic run of form in the Midnite, Building The Future Of Betting Handicap.

Simon Hodgson's charge has won his last three starts over the minimum trip, with a couple of course and distance victories followed by a decisive all-the-way win at Wolverhampton.

Assuming he is in the same form after a short break, he will take some pegging back despite a 4lb hike in the weights.

Dan and Harry Skelton rarely leave Warwick without a winner and the pick of their five runners on the card could be Risky Obsession, who makes his debut under rules in the concluding PricedUp Supports British Racing Open National Hunt Flat Race.

The four-year-old was bought for £190,000 as part of David Maxwell's dispersal in October, having won his only start in the Irish point-to-point field earlier in the year.

That form looks solid enough, with the runner-up Cool Customer recently finishing second in a bumper at Southwell for Fergal O'Brien, and connections of Risky Obsession will be hoping for an immediate return on their substantial investment at the Skeltons' local track.

Catch On Me is of interest in the Simply Logistics Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter.

The five-year-old brought decent form from France and while he has not managed to get seriously competitive on his first two starts in Britain for Venetia Williams, he steps back up in trip for his handicap debut and an opening mark of 112 looks workable.
