LEG-BY-LEG GUIDE TO LIKELY R3-MILLION JACKPOT
Leg 1: Race 5 - 1200m ALLAN ROBERTSON CHAMPIONSHIP
With a R1-million carryover to get the adrenalin pumping, horseplayers can expect a mega Jackpot ONE pool in excess of R3 million. And what makes the Jackpot so appealing is that all four legs are Grade 1 contests, at least one of which usually throws up a shock winner. There’s a great line up for Leg 1, the Allan Robertson Championship. 8-Symphony In White was impressive in easily shrugging off decent filly Kinda Wonderful and could be the horse for Scottsville. However 6-Just Reckless is three from four at the venue and could be the biggest threat. 1-Quid Pro Quo has been getting better with each start and deserves inclusion. The one to watch is 3-Gimmie’s Countess, who is regally bred and has started her career in impressive style. It may pay to play it safe and go with all four.
Leg 2: Race 6 - 1200m GOLD MEDALLION
Medallion time and TAB’s Trifecta and Quartet are also worth catching as it looks fierce contest in the making. The Sean Tarry yard has a great record on this big day and his runner 11-Proceed could be the right one following the scratching of Truth. He is improving nicely but it is wide open and others to shortlist include 5-Cymric and 9-One More. Both are progressive individuals with more to come.
Leg 3: Race 7 - 1200m SA FILLIES SPRINT
Never an easy race and with a big field anything is possible. 15-Winter Cloud has been in great form and is out to make it three from three. And while she has won at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, she has drawn wide and has a bit more to do at the weights. Stablemate 4-October Morn has much in her favour as she has the class and is well weighted, but she comes from off the pace and will need luck to make her way through the pack at this venue. 13-Asiye Phambili could take advantage as this is her homebase, but she too has drawn a bit wide. All of 1-Kwinta’s Light, 3- Baltic Secret, 5-Mrs Browning, 6-White Pearl, 11-One Fell Swoop and 10-Time For Orchids are worth considering.
Leg 4: Race 8 - 1200m GOLDEN HORSE SPRINT
The Golden Horse Sprint is a handicap and as such a difficult contest, even if last year’s race was won by topweight and favourite Gimme A Prince. Last year’s top juvenile 11-Lucky Lad showed that he was no one-season wonder when producing a flying finish to win a Grade 2 last time. He has it in him to be a top sprinter and with his confidence boosted, could prove that here. But he has a wide draw and meets some well weighted sorts in the likes of 3-Surjay (knocking hard for a big win) and 6-Quasiforsure who have drawn well. 7-Dyce is the star sprinter in the race and has been gelded, so could show his class again. Look for a couple of outsiders to add to your perm.
