Wednesday’s card on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville is definitely not for the fainthearted.
However, no matter how much darkness punters often have to face there is usually some light on the horizon.
In this case, it looks to be coming in Race 1 where trainer Frank Robinson sends out One Path in this Maiden Plate over 1000m.
One Path is by outstanding stallion One World out of a Western Winter mare, and one cannot fault her debut run on the turf at Greyville on 10 March when a 1.90-length second behind Golden Chandelier. She went off at 20-1 so was unfancied but clearly ran better than expected.
One winner has come from that form and that was Michael Miller-trained Magical View who has since gone on to win again.
This time Muzi Yeni has picked up the ride and from barrier No 1 looks very hard to beat.
She is coming back from a six-month break but Robinson is upbeat about her chances based on his comment in Computaform where he wrote: “Smart filly, will give a good account of herself.”
One Path is bred for further and tries the Polytrack for the first time but looks a class above the raced runners.
The main threat is likely to come from Sun In My Pocket who has run well in both of her races on the Polytrack. She was beaten a short head on debut over the course and distance and then finished a 6.20-length third behind Dantonfromsandton in a Non-Black Type race over 1200m at this track. While well beaten by Sean Tarry’s charge, it is worth noting that Dantonfromsandton finished second in the Grade 3 Umkhomzi Stakes on the turf.
It could be worth taking Exactas with the two fillies.
One horse who has turned the corner after a slump is Shoefella. He could take the rise in class in Race 5, a MR 88 Handicap over 1600m, in his stride.
After losing his form trainer Peter Muscutt fitted with a set of blinkers and that made all the difference as he won his last two starts with ease. He still appears underrated racing off an upped rating of 76 and while he meets a lot stronger, he should still be effective, especially from gate No 1.
