Put on your Tap Shoes in the Cape

March 2025

Jack Milner

Racing in the Western Cape returns to Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday, but it will not be an easy transformation for punters.

Racing looks highly competitive and there not too many runners who stand out on the nine-race card.

It could be worth taking a chance on Tap Shoes, who lines up in Race 6, a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m.

This full sister to Zapatillas has had four runs, winning her last two and looks to have lots of room for further improvement. She is trained by Justin Snaith and will have log-leading jockey Craig Zackey in the irons for the first time.

While Zapatillas has not won over 1800m, he did run a 0.80-length third in the Grade 3 Politician Stakes in 2022 behind Universal.

This filly looks as if she will be better the further she goes and this is hardly the toughest field around.

The one concern is the change of track as her first two runs, which were at Durbanville, were not particularly exciting, although she did run third on debut over 1250m at the course but was beaten 5.50 lengths by I’m So Pritti.

Recently gelded Dubbelosix will aim to make a winning return to the track where he started off his career for the Brett and James Crawford father-and-son team in Race 4, an Open Maiden over 1600m.

Dubbelosix is a promising son of Vercingetorix and should start notching up a few wins now he has been gelded.

He has turned in decent performances in just about all his starts and is overdue for the win. He looks to have an undeniable chance at opening his account. He carries top weight of 61.5kg and gives chunks of weight around, but he is capable of going through the divisions so should finally reward connections.
