Promising three-year-olds on show at Greyville

There are two feature races on the card for Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday in a meeting that has a mix of both turf and Polytrack racing.

Both the Grade 3 events are for three-year-olds over 1400m on the turf, the first, coming up in Race 6, is the Umzimkhulu Stakes for fillies, followed by the Byerley Turk (Race 7) for all three-year-olds but this time comprises just colts and geldings.

Heading the list for the Umzimkhulu Stakes in Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Quickstepgal. This Tienie Prinsloo-trained daughter of Vercingetorix has been one of the most consistent three-year-olds around and after running fifth on debut, her form in her next eight runs comprises five wins, two seconds and a fourth place.

She has raced three times at Greyville for two wins and a second behind Anotherdanceforme in the Grade 2 Golden Slipper.

However, last time out she was touched off by Justin Snaith-trained Gimme What I Want in the Grade 2 Sceptre Stakes over 1200m at HWB Kenilworth by just 0.20 lengths.

This time they meet over 200m further which is likely to suit them both but with the Snaith runner now 1kg better off, she might hold the advantage.

Keagan de Melo rides Quickstepgal while Callan Murray is aboard Gimme What I Want.

The Byerley Turk also looks an interesting contest but Gareth van Zyl-trained Wild Justice catches the eye. He has raced six times for four wins, a second and a third place, and he looks to have a lot more to come.

He does try 1400m for the first time but based on his breeding and his style of running, it should not be a concern. Wild Justice will jump from pole position and Murray has picked up the ride.

The main dangers look to be Dean Kannemeyer-trained Green Gateway with Craig Zackey up, and Miami Mountain, trained by Mike and Mathew de Kock, with Gavin Lerena in the irons.

They both narrowly beat Roland Garros last time, but in different races. However, Green Gateway could have the edge as he is 1kg better weighted based on those collateral form lines.

But it is at Greyville this time, and it could go either way.
