Cape Racing's bumper 10-event fixture at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday consists mostly of Maiden Plate races but the weekend's card features a host of attractive betting propositions that punters ought to take advantage of, as several runners target a reward for their consistency.
Vercingetorix gelding Circumbendibus needn't improve a great deal in first-time blinkers to belatedly open his account in Race 3 over 1200m. Glen Kotzen's charge has enjoyed reverting to sprint distances in his last three starts and his recent course-and-distance performances have been encouraging.
He finished third over track and trip last time after filling the runners-up berth in his previous outing. If Kotzen's decision to fit blinkers and earmuffs unlocks any improvement, Circumbendibus will deservedly shed his maiden tag with JP van der Merwe in the irons.
Poetic Princess fits a similar profile in Race 4 over 1200m. Aldo Domeyer rode the Candice-Bass Robinson inmate for the first time in her last start when this What A Winter filly produced a career-best performance over 1000m.
She stayed on well to finish second and, on the evidence of that display, the extended trip could be what she is looking for.
Unsurprisingly, Domeyer retains the ride and a repeat of that performance over the extra 200m should see Poetic Princess rewarded for her consistency.
Landoftherisingsun should follow suit for Justin Snaith and Richard Fourie in Race 7 over 1800m, as this Danon Platina gelding will relish the step up to this distance for the first time. In two starts over 1400m since he was gelded, Snaith's charge has given the impression that he'll be better given a sterner test of stamina.
Landoftherisingsun finished a close-up third in his two comeback outings after he was 'cut' and was doing his best work late on both occasions. It is also encouraging that Fourie retains the ride!
With the extra 400m expected to eke out further improvement, Landoftherisingsun appears one of the better bets on the card.
