Present looks Uttoxeter gift

Kim Bailey's yard has been in cracking form of late and Broomfield Present can help to maintain the momentum by prevailing in the Pektron Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter on Sunday.

The seven-year-old showed plenty of promise over hurdles last term, landing a maiden event at Ffos Las and finishing off with a convincing victory in a competitive handicap at Haydock.

However, as an Irish point-to-point winner, the son of Presenting always looked a chaser in the making and more progress is expected this term.

His first outing over fences was a solid third behind Make Me A Believer at Exeter, when taking a little time to warm up but then staying on strongly.

Broomfield Present seems the type to come on for a run and he is on a very manageable handicap mark now that any cobwebs have been blown away.

Lady In The Park looks yet another useful recruit for Lucinda Russell ahead of her jumping debut in the Quinnbet Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

She was bought for £90,000 after winning an Irish point-to-point ahead of El Champo, who has since gone on to oblige several times under rules on the Emerald Isle.

From the same family as smart performer Feathard Lady, Lady In The Park put in a pleasing effort when third in an Aintree bumper last month and that should have put her spot on for this.

The Imposter has been an absolute revelation for Nigel Hawke over the past 12 months and may still have at least one more win left in him in the Morgan Industrial Properties Handicap Hurdle.

He was rated just 76 when breaking his duck at Lingfield around this time last year and is up to as high as 117 after making it seven wins out of eight on his seasonal reappearance at Ffos Las recently.

However, he made all to score in impressive fashion at the Welsh track, going away again at the line, and the incredible improvement may not have stopped yet.

There are some promising types in the opening Devon Air Ambulance & Marley Communications Juvenile Hurdle at Exeter but recent Warwick scorer Salver sets a decent standard, even with a 3.5kg penalty.

Gary Moore's charge brushed off a couple of sketchy jumps late on to storm ahead in the closing stages and finished full of running.

The Devonshire Novices' Limited Handicap Chase has attracted multiple entries from powerful, in-form stables but Moriko De Vassy could be a value bet towards the lower end of the weights.

He was a promising novice hurdler for Tom Symonds a couple of seasons ago and is on a nice mark if able to recapture that sparkle for new trainer Jane Williams over fences.

There is no handler going better than Venetia Williams at present and her Enjoy Your Life appeals in the Gerald George Lacey Memorial Handicap Chase.

The six-year-old had no answer to the late surge of Huelgoat at Wincanton but travelled sweetly throughout that contest and finished nine lengths clear of the third.

Over in Ireland, Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Galopin Des Champs begins his campaign in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase and is expected to prove a class apart.

Fastorslow lowered his colours when a surprise scorer at the big festival here in April but was 21 lengths adrift when they met in this contest last season.

Willie Mullins has several other interesting runners on a high-class card, not least racecourse debutant Soir De Garde in the Irish Daily Mirror (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race, as he is a half-brother to star hurdler State Man. - Press Association
