Potapova to bloom in Snowdrop heat

April 2022

It is a Bank Holiday bonanza of racing and Potapova is backed to bounce right back to her best today in the Unibet Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at Kempton.

The Cheveley Park-owned four-year-old was an impressive winner at Chelmsford on debut, which is her only previous appearance on a synthetic surface.

She then marked herself out as a Royal Ascot contender when landing a Redcar novice event and although disappointing in testing ground at the summer showpiece meeting, she showed her class when finishing fourth in the Group Three Atalanta Stakes at Sandown.

A line can be drawn through her final outing of last year at Doncaster, where she dwelt in the stalls and gave away too much ground to her rivals and she is just the type that handler Sir Michael Stoute excels with as an older horse.

Stoute will be hoping to double up with the hat-trick-seeking Hasty Sailor in the Unibet Rosebery Handicap, while a return to six furlongs (1200m) can help Fresh make a winning return in the Wise Betting At Racing TV Handicap.

The course-and-distance winner was second off this rating in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2021 and was a consistent performer in some of the big sprinting handicaps last term.

It is interesting to see Frankie Dettori's name down against The Queen's Saga in the Join Racing TV Now Conditions Stakes.

A runner-up to Modern Games and Coroebus in his first two outings, the Invincible Spirit colt made it third time lucky at Ascot and is an interesting prospect for this season, still holding an entry for the Qipco 2000 Guineas.

Phantom Flight was James Horton's first ever runner when finishing second at Newcastle last month and could provide one of the newest names to the training ranks with his first winner in division one of the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Novice Stakes at Redcar.

The 100,000 guineas breeze-up buy showed signs of inexperience at Gosforth Park, but can take a huge leap forward here to get off the mark at the second time of asking.

Also in the north east, it is of note that Danielsflyer looks for back-to-back victories in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap off a mark that is 1lb (0,5kg) lower than when successful in the race 12 months ago. He tuned up nicely when third on reappearance at Newcastle last month and that should put him spot-on for this assignment.

Over the obstacles at Plumpton, Parliament Hill gets the vote in the Sarah Fiedosiuk Is 60 And Still Juvenile Hurdle.

Second at Southwell following wind surgery last time, Olly Murphy's four-year-old saw the form of that victory franked by the winner at Ffos Las, while his Leicester success from earlier in the season has also worked out well.

Mercian Prince is down to his last winning mark in the Betting.Bet Sussex Champion Chase Handicap Chase as Amy Murphy's bold forward-going chaser looks to recapture the prize he won in 2019. He was bitterly disappointing when sent off favourite at Kempton in November, but has not been seen since and his record fresh suggests a bold bid is in the offing.

The BoyleSports Irish Grand National is the highlight of the Easter action on the Emerald Isle and it could be Floueur who gives Gordon Elliott a second win in the race.

While the focus may be on his runners towards the head of the betting, this one could be under the radar following his run on ground that was a touch on the quick side for the seven-year-old at the Cheltenham Festival.

It should not be be forgotten that Floueur was sent off the 15-2 favourite for that Ultima Handicap Chase and, having also lost a shoe during the contest, he has plenty of excuses.

He is now back to racing off his Irish mark of 141, which is just 1lb (0,5kg) higher than when third to stablemate Death Duty in Punchestown's Grand National Trial and he remains one who is unexposed over staying trips.

The consistent Janidil can finally get a 'one' against his name in the Devenish Chase following his brave effort behind Allaho in the Ryanair Chase. The eight-year-old is in danger of becoming tripless having mixed and matched between two and a half and three miles (2000m - 2800m ) this season, but this Grade Two contest gives Willie Mullins' charge the perfect chance to get his head in front. - Press Association
