Jack Milner: Paul Peter has arrived in Durban ahead of Wednesday’s meeting at Hollywoodbets Greyville on the Polytrack where he saddles six runners.
The Turffontein-based trainer said on Tuesday he was looking forward to a good day at the track. “We have some nice runners and at least we landed some good draws this time which is always an advantage.
“They all have the form to be competitive, but I think the best two come up in Races 1 and 2.”
Greenhill runs in the opening event, a Maiden Plate over 1000m, and this is the runner Peter rates his best of the day.
“Greenhill looks the obvious one in the race. He’s coming back to 1000m which I believe will suit him. He’s been running over further and always seems to be reeled in late.”
Greenhill ran a very decent race over 1200m at the Vaal last time when a 1.25-length second behind Hotchiwitchi, and is the runner rated to win.
He jumps from No 1 draw and has Lyle Hewitson in the irons.
In Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m, Peter saddles Sabrina Fairchild. She improved in blinkers last time when runner-up to Midnight Gem over 1200m, also at the Vaal.
“I think she will really love the Polytrack,” said Peter.
Amplify runs in Race 3, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m, but Peter is more hopeful than confident. “She ran better in her first race than she shows us at home so we’re hoping for further improvement.”
He added that Sekhmet in Race 5 has been disappointing and they’re hoping the Polytrack will result in some improvement while he feels Ace Of Spades in Race 7 has come on since his maiden win and will be competitive.
