Paggane the pick at Market Rasen

November 2025

Paggane can add another Listed triumph to her record in the Pertemps Network Bud Booth Mares' Chase at Market Rasen on Wednesday.

It is not often that a runner improves for leaving the care of Willie Mullins, but since joining Faye Bramley following a 100,000 guineas sale in June, Paggane has hit a career high mark of 148 over fences having won one of her two jumps starts for her new handler.

The six-year-old certainly showed ability for Mullins, notably finishing second at Grade Two level, but she fell a little short on other occasions and two initial Flat runs for Bramley were best ignored as she is a real stayer.

Pitched in over hurdles in October, Paggane finished a creditable second in Chepstow's Silver Trophy but moved back to fences at Carlisle for a Listed heat, she put in a smooth round of jumping to gallop home upwards of nine lengths clear.

She must carry an extra 4lb for that success but her revised mark of 148 puts her in front of the field, while moving back up to 4800m is another positive.

Lihyan contests the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle having finished third in a similar event at Newbury last time out.

Classy chasers Haiti Couleurs and Bill Baxter filled the first two places on that occasion so Lihyan's 2.75-length third perhaps deserves a little more praise, particularly as Rebecca Menzies' inmate was a bit short of room at a crucial stage.

Good Old Days was edged out by a stablemate at the start of the month but can gain compensation in the Bet At Your Best With Betfair Fillies' Novice Stakes at Chelmsford.

As a full-sister to multiple Group One winner Nation's Pride, trainers John and Thady Gosden will be well aware of the value a racecourse success would add to the Godolphin filly's paddocks profile.

Asadjumeirah thrives at Newcastle and must be on the shortlist for the Midnite, Building The Future Of Betting Apprentice Handicap.

His current mark of 58 is still a long way below his 2022 high of 87 but it is still a competitive perch for him judged by the fact he has placed on his last two starts. - Press Association
