Osimhen has suitors lining up
This week’s Champions League clash between AC Milan and Napoli puts the focus very much back on Victor Osimhen and the future of Italian football’s top marksman.
The Nigerian international has been under an intense spotlight as he continues to pillage the goals for Napoli, driving them to within touching distance of the Serie A title and into the quarter-finals of Europe’s top club competition.
Osimhen has been on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after an incredible campaign in Naples, his 21 goals in 23 league games crucial as Luciano Spalletti's side sit top of Serie A and on course for a first Scudetto since 1990. The 24-year-old has formed a deadly partnership with Georgian sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the pair on course to take Napoli into the latter stages of the Champions League.
Such form has inevitably caught the eye of Europe’s elite, with Manchester United one of several sides known to be interested. Erik ten Hag will add a world-class striker to his ranks mid-year, with Harry Kane earmarked as the prime target but Osimhen not far behind.
However, the Reds – and other interested parties – look to have suffered a blow, with Osimhen waxing lyrical about Napoli earlier this week and telling suitors he is happy to stay in the south of Italy.
“The truth is, what’s happening to me is incredible. I hope the fans are as happy as I am, as we are,” he said.
