Midweek meetings on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville are not easy to negotiate usually but surprisingly, there could be a couple of good bets on Wednesday’s card where both One Path and Strathclyde look to have great winning chances.
Last time out, One Path was not expected to produce much, drifting in the betting from 5-2 to 9-2. However, she gave the heavily backed Michael Roberts-trained filly Ladyofdistinction (5-10) a hard time, breathing down her neck all the way to the line.
Trained by Frank Robinson, One Path did not have the run of the race, with things going wrong as she suffered a speedy cut, while also not looking comfortable at the end.
The daughter of One World has speed in her pedigree, but given her performances to date, she does give the impression she will go the 1600m in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares.
Sean Veale takes the ride.
Nautical Landing is rated a point higher at 80, but she disappointed in her last two and could be a tad over-rated.
On paper it might look like Strathclyde, who lines up in Race 3, will have a tough task to resume winning ways.
He found one better in two of his last three and then ran third. But the runners who finished ahead of him on those outings, say it all.
He was beaten by up-and-coming sprinter The Real Prince who looks headed for the top despite being beaten by The Shepherd. The latter boasts a second-place finish to Equus Horse-Of-The-Year Dave The King.
In his last start, Strathclyde got up close to The Shepherd when the pair found one of KwaZulu-Natal’s stars, Grade 2 winner Gladatorian, too good. Seeing as Strathclyde is taking a step down in class in this MR 90 Handicap, he could be one hard horse to beat.
The Tony Rivalland-trained Vercingetorix gelding is also a frontrunner that is hard to peg back on turf and on poly debut could be even tougher to catch, especially as he has been given gate No 1.
