Nunez gives Liverpool a winning edge
Darwin Nunez is shrugging off some of the wild excesses of his game and is starting to display a more clinical nature.
With Liverpool limping through the rest of the season, this 22-year-old Uruguayan striker could well turn into their talisman.
This season is, arguably, one to forget for the likes of Mohamed Salah and some of the other more established Liverpool stars, while Nunez has taken a while to polish his approach. There is, however, no doubting his ability and the danger he poses to the defence of opponents with what he offers Liverpool going forward as he looks to pay back the 75-million euro investment they made in him.
Nunez is Liverpool’s second-highest scorer this season with 12 goals and while he’s prone to missing the target too, his movement and chaos injects energy, entertainment and danger.
For many, he’s proven to be one of Liverpool’s most important players at the moment, a tag that contradicts the outside criticism.
A shoulder injury kept him out against Crystal Palace on Sunday but he should be back for tomorrow’s game at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The stats show that when Nunez plays, Liverpool have a 54% chance of winning but it drops to 30% without him.
