Never Ending primed to strike at Newbury

June 2023

Never Ending took a big step forward on her seasonal reappearance and should be able to break her maiden in the William Hill Presents Up Front Apprentice Fillies' Novice Stakes on Friday at Goodwood.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly only made it to the track once at two.

Given she cost 825,000 guineas, connections would not have been blown away by her fourth-placed finish at Southwell.

By No Nay Never, she is a full sister to Arizona, winner of the Coventry Stakes in 2019, hence the hefty price tag.

She ran green on that debut and clearly benefitted for the experience as next time out at Newmarket, she looked a different proposition.

Second to Charlie Appleby's Silver Lady, who has subsequently gone close in Listed company, the third home Rowayeh has also won since.

If she has come forward again for that, which she is entitled to, she sets a good standard.

The Gosdens could also be celebrating at Haydock, where Governor Of India looks a very noteworthy newcomer in the GPW Employee Ownership Trust Novice Stakes.

Unraced at two, the son of Dubawi is out of John Gosden's French Oaks winner Star Of Seville.

It is slightly surprising that Governor Of India begins life over almost a mile and a half, but owner Lady Bamford, still on a high after Soul Sister's Oaks victory, could be in the winner's enclosure again.

Hugo Palmer's Navarre Express looks an interesting runner in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Fillies' Novice Stakes at Thirsk.

She is up against a couple of fairly useful fillies, but the selection has only had the one run to date and is open to significant improvement.

Her fifth of nine, beaten just over five lengths, may not have screamed next time out winner, but there was plenty of promise and Palmer's runners tend to progress markedly with experience.

The race in which she made her debut at Doncaster was pretty hot for a maiden in October, as it was won by Sea Of Roses who went on to run in the Oaks, with subsequent Musidora third Infinite Cosmos in second.

The third home has also won since, which suggests Navarre Express faced a pretty stiff task that day.

Glenister is a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver, recording two quickfire successes over the last week.

He carries a 10lb penalty for those two Lingfield wins in the At The Races App Form Study Handicap at Brighton, but it will be a surprise if he is beaten.

There is every chance stablemate Trooper Bisdee can rattle up his own sequence too.

He won last time out at Yarmouth by a neck and while carrying a 6lb penalty, we all know how these Prescott horses keep finding once they have established the winning habit.

The Australia gelding is going out further in trip for the aceodds.com Bet Calculator Handicap at Bath but the others look exposed.

Over the jumps, Earlofthecotswolds can successfully switch spheres in the Price Boosts On Football At Rhino.bet Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen.

Useful on the Flat for Nigel Twiston-Davies, he is having his first run over obstacles since Boxing Day 2021. - Press Association
