KwaZulu-Natal has been hit by heavy rains once again and by Tuesday morning 65mm of rain had fallen around Hollywoodbets Greyville.
There is a 75% chance of thunder showers forecast for Wednesday and as a result Races 1 to 3, originally carded to be run on the turf, have been moved to the Polytrack.
Western Cape conditioner Andre Nel has his satellite yard in KwaZulu-Natal firing on all cylinders.
Both Querari’s Dream and Ladybug return to the scene of their winning last performance and look to have every chance of following up on the eight-race programme.
Querari’s Dream is two from two over 1600m and could remain unbeaten over this trip after Race 2, a MR 78 Handicap. After a convincing last victory, he has gone up only 4 points for a merit rating of 70 but he looks a lot better than that.
On the whole he appears to have patchy form but was tried over further for a number of runs that now prove beyond his reach. The slight negative on Wednesday is that he jumps from the widest stall, but the good news is that he has proven form on the Polytrack.
While Querari’s Dream has shown the versatility to win on both surfaces, Ladybug has only won on the Polytrack. But it is of no concern for her team as she runs on her best surface in Race 5, a 1200m MR 78 Handicap for fillies and mares.
She has won both of her races over the course and distance as she liked. It is quite interesting that unlike most other specialists, she turns it on a bit late rather than speeding along up front. The daughter of William Longsword has beaten only weaker but is another horse that looks under-rated racing off a rating of 79.
