Nel runners to score at Greyville

Cape trainer Andre Nel could provide bettors with a double at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday when they race on the Polytrack. Nel looks set to pick p Race 3 with Mac Hardy and Race 4 with Silver Platter.

Mac Hardy has been waiting for the Polytrack since hitting top form in February. He produced an eye-catching finish to nab Numzaan, and it looked like he would go on to more victories. The formline has been strong with Numzaan and one other coming out to win from there subsequently.

The Polytrack was upgraded after that and there was no racing on the track until the middle of May. In order to keep him on the boil, Nel then switched the Vercingetorix gelding to the turf. He could very well have won his next two starts had it not been for having drawn wides of all. In both races, the first over 1400m and the next over 1600m, he produced a punishing finish.

He has drawn well, in Race 3, a D Stakes over 1400m on the new Polytrack surface, and he he rates the one to beat.

Stablemate Silver Platter has also been catching the eye recently. He has taken time to mature but he was gaining fast behind useful Glen Kotzen three-year-old Master Bomber over 1800m last time and it appeared as if he had more ground he would have got there.

He is by Silvano and they are notoriously late maturers and as he is two months away from turning five it appears his time has come. While he has run second three times on turf, he just looked a more dangerous customer on the Polytrack last time and from draw No 1, and now over 2000m, he could be one of the best bet on the day.
