Muzi to get bettors off to winning start

May 2024

Jack Milner

Jockey Muzi Yeni has opted to stay in Joburg on Saturday as opposed to travelling to KwaZulu-Natal for the feature races.

As a result, he has picked rides in all 10 races on the Turffontein Standside track and looks set to come away with a few winners.

In fact, he should kick off the meeting with a win as he rides Believe In Fate in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1160m. The Master Of My Fate colt is trained by Joe Soma and caught the eye when finishing strongly behind highly regarded One More as well as speedy Gorgeous Klein who won her next start easily.

That form line was also franked by Waheed who finished a length behind Believe In Fate, so it appears to be pretty decent.

Piere Strydom interestingly rode Believe In Fate last time but will be aboard Beynac whom he also rode in the colt’s first outing. He also ran a fair race on that occasion but on a line of form with Chocolate Soldier, Beynac will have his work cut out to beat Soma’s charge.

Those then wondering why Strydom opted for Brett Crawford-trained runner is that he has an agreement to ride for owners ASSM Riding Syndicate.

Mambo Come Tesio (Race 6) and Cullinan Blue (Race 8) are from powerful yards and have plenty going for them and rate form choices in their respective heats. Mike de Kock-trained Mambo Come Tesio produced a powerful finish in his last start and is now back over 2400m, which is what he wants.

Crawford’s Cullinan Blue was unlucky to lose her last feature event and may be prepping ahead of the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but she may still be too classy.
