Muzi to dish up a One Liner in the Cape

Finding a banker on Wednesday’s card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth is not all that easy but it might be worth going with Michelle Rix-trained One Liner in Race 6, a Class 3 Handicap over 1200m.

The four-year-old One World gelding clearly enjoyed returning to the Kenilworth straight course after some failures on the tight-turning Hollywoodbets Durbanville and celebrated it with a win over 1200m.

He did receive a 1.5kg penalty for that win and while he does take a jump in class, he does come into this race with just 52kg on his back.

Muzi Yeni, who rode him to victory last time, will be back in the irons.

Another interesting contest comes up Race 7, a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m, where KwaZulu-Natal raider Showgirl comes up against another talented Gimmethegreenlight-bred filly from Khaya Stables, Gimmeanotherviking, trained by Dean Kannemeyer.

Peter Muscutt has brought the four-year-old daughter of Soqrat back to the Cape after a very disappointing start to her career in the province in January and February 2024. She showed good pace in her first two starts only to hit a brick wall.

But once again Muscutt demonstrated that in racing, patience can often be a virtue and after some 18 months off the course, Showgirl returned to racing at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on 21 September and showed her true ability with a 2.20-length victory over What A Passion.

The filly then arrived in the Cape and on 10 November, fitted with a tongue tie this time, notched up another facile victory over 1200m at Kenilworth, this time beating Rhydian by 2.25 lengths.

Despite the two wins, Showgirl is not an easy filly as she has been restless in both of those races. Fortunately, she has had Richard Fourie on her back for the last two races and he will be on board again.

Kannemeyer’s charge made her debut on 8 November, went off at 18-10 and duly obliged, overcoming her greenness to beat Vroom Vroom by 1.25 lengths.

Based on times, Showgirl has a clear advantage, but she will have to give Gimmeanotherviking 2.5kg.

As expected, Craig Zackey takes the ride.
