Murphy looks the man to follow at Wolverhampton

Oisin Murphy does not team up with James Fanshawe on a regular basis, but when he does it is usually worth noting, which makes Estissa of particular interest at Wolverhampton on Monday.

The multiple champion jockey has a near one in four strike-rate for Fanshawe over the years, and when you look at the breeding of Estissa she knocks your eye out even more ahead of the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.

By champion sire Dubawi, she is out of a mare Fanshawe trained to win the Prix Jean Romanet and Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in the shape of Audarya.

Estissa is the first of her progeny to make the track and she looked very green on her debut when third of 11 at Lingfield.

Audarya herself was a slow burner and did not break her maiden until the fourth attempt, in a lowly Redcar novice, but just three starts later she was second in Listed company in France.

Murphy could also be in the winner's enclosure when he teams up with Hugo Palmer's Laureate Crown in the Daily Profit Boosts At betmgm.co.uk Handicap.

Although without success since scoring on debut, he was highly tried last term and now reappears in much calmer waters having always looked to possess a touch of class about him.

The Palmer and Murphy combination could also pay dividends in the Midnite Ain't Your Grandad's Bookie Handicap with the Flying Seagull sure to be fitter for a course-and-distance pipe-opener last month.

Fergal O'Brien's Denemethy has been winless to date so far this season but has been running consistently well nonetheless and can land the Virgin Bet Supports Safe Gambling Handicap Chase at Kempton.

His best effort arguably came at Sandown when fourth behind the classy Jax Junior but he has been second at Exeter and third at Leicester.

He has not won since Boxing Day 2024 so the handicapper does seem to have him in his grasp but he might be better off giving weight away in a lesser race like this.

Es Perfecto has often threatened to win a big prize for Alan King without ever quite fulfilling his promise.

Fifth in the Jack Richards last March at Cheltenham, he has countless other decent efforts on his record.

Now 11 he has his first run over 4800m for five years in the Virgin Bet Handicap Chase and it might be just what he needs.

Sonic Pioneer was given quotes for the Triumph Hurdle after impressing on his debut here in November but it has all gone wrong since.

Martin Keighley has run him in two Grade Two events and he has pulled up in both.

He has had his sights considerably lowered for the Virgin Bet Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle, and while he is taking on older horses for the first time this could be the right time of year to do it. - Press Association
