It proved a great day for 4Racing CEO Fundi Sithebe, Racehorse Owners Association Natalie Turner and the other members of the Magical Ladies Syndicate as Mrs Geriatrix romped to a 3.70 length victory in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Ridden Richard Fourie and trained by Sean Tarry the two-year-old daughter of beat Rascova (14-1) into second with Egyptian Mau (14-1) in third.
"I've got to give all accolades to Mr Tarry and all the members of the the syndicate," said Fourie of the 9-10 favourite. "She's not the biggest but has she's got a stride on her. She will get a mile easily in my opinion."
Tarry was cautiously delighted by the win as the filly seemed to find the big crowd and perhaps all the noise a bit too much. "Look, she got the job done," he said. "She took it all in her stride. She was a little bit overwhelmed and at the end of it you could see she was a little bit strained.
"But she is a superstar!"
Mrs Geriatrix is now unbeaten in five starts.
The meeting also proved a great moment for trainer David Nieuwenhuizen when Sandringham Summit (6-1) won the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe over 1400m for two-year-olds.
This was a case where everything that could go wrong did go wrong as he twisted his head coming out of the pens and then jockey Calvin Habib had to duck in and out coming up the straight before getting the better of 9-4 favourite Gimmeanotherchance by 0.40 lengths with Guy Gibson anther one length back in third.
